Revisiting the Lower Decks

Since we first introduced ship interiors, we have been wanting to bring more functionality to them, including being able to speak to your crew. With this week’s patch, we are adding a number of contacts to your ship interior, as well as other locations around the galaxy.

Each of these contacts will offer assignments – some of these are new and some of these are additional chances to focus your efforts on a specific commendation category (e.g. Science, Engineering, or any other category). For a more social experience, you can invite your friends to your ship’s interior, and they can invite you to theirs, so they can also take advantage of the assignments these new contacts are offering.

Many of the shipboard parts of the assignment chains involving assembling consumable turrets and torpedo platforms -- this includes Mark XII consoles which are now always available from the appropriate officer. Found a schematic for a prototype plasma turret? Go to your engineer and have her assemble it for you!

In addition, as you advance in the ranks, additional assignments will become regularly available from these contacts to make hypos, batteries, regenerators, components and other useful items.

As mentioned, the new contacts on your ship’s interior are not the only new contacts! On Deep Space Nine, a Ferengi trader offers additional selections of trade assignments, and on Earth Space Dock and Q’onoS a Security Officer has assignments to accept confiscated contraband, handle prisoner transfers and – for the Klingons – to redeem the bounty on Tribble carcasses.

At the respective factions’ academies, Personnel Officers allow a captain to commission cadres of duty officers, and also to turn in five underperforming duty officers, plus a modest amount of Dilithium, for a random duty officer of the next highest quality. Too many duty officers of common (white) quality? Turn them in for uncommon (green) quality duty officers!
