This past week, we introduced a new feature to Star Trek Online that allows players of Foundry content to donate to the author. Internally, we call this the “tip jar” feature.
For those of you that recently joined STO, Foundry is an amazingly cool toolset that allows players to write their own Star Trek episodes and share them with others. You can find and play Foundry content in the mission journal under a tab called “Community Authored”. There is also a daily mission you can find under “Available Missions” in your mission journal that gives a nice Dilithium reward if you play a couple of Foundry missions, so be sure to accept that mission before setting out.
Foundry content is rated by the community, making it easy to find the best stories to play. Some of these episodes are absolutely fantastic, showing skill with storytelling and the dedication the Star Trek community has for their beloved universe. The best part is that everyone playing STO has the opportunity to explore these strange new worlds and seek out new life in these great stories!
After playing a Foundry mission, take the opportunity to rate the mission for others, and look for the new button to donate to the author. Donations are made with small amounts of Refined Dilithium. Authors can use this Dilithium to purchase additional project slots or to otherwise bask in the purple glow of your appreciation.
Even if you don’t choose to donate, try taking a side trek into the Foundry content the next time you’re in the game. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the wealth of great story content there.
