An Amazing Month

December has been an amazing month for Star Trek Online. We kicked off the month with the launch of Season 5: Call to Arms, which proceeded to more than double the number of players actively in game and significantly increased the average time each person spent playing. The introduction of new starships, Duty Officer game play, and an array of new and improved content in Season 5 was clearly well received!

Last week, we started STO's first holiday event, Q's Winter Wonderland. Players are able to do daily foot races on an ice track, enjoy humorous snow men in unique Star Trek poses, and collect fun prizes. This further increased the active player numbers, and it was fun to see many thousands of players enjoying the event.

The big prize for the event is a Jem’Hadar Attack Ship. Each Red Holiday Gift has a chance of awarding this starship, a Holographic Bridge Officer, or a number of other excellent items. You can get a Red Holiday Gift by playing in the event, or you can purchase one in the C-Store (under the name Winter Package). This is our first attempt at releasing an ultra-rare game item, and the hundreds of players who have unlocked the ship absolutely love it.

This coming weekend we are having a Duty Officer mini-event that will be described in more detail tomorrow. And we have at least one more fun surprise before the end of the month.

Also this month, we started up the Gold member stipend awards, so that all subscribers will be getting 400 Cryptic Points a month. This was effective December 1 and uses the stipend rules.

We also granted the Tribble playtesting awards to players as of Thursday Dec 8. If you helped test Season 5 by playing on Tribble, be sure to claim your rewards!

With Season 5 released, the development team is now starting work on the Dominion Featured Episode series for February. They are still early in development, but we should have some early art and sneak peeks available in early January to share. We are also busy putting together the ground skills revamp and some UI improvements. Those of you who like to get an early look at upcoming features can look for these to show up on Tribble sometime next week.

Thank you all for fitting STO into your busy holiday schedule. I look forward to seeing you in game!
